SMT-5800: Bluetooth GPSdevice discovery failed

Bild von cyberhobo

I've searched enough to know that this isn't a huge surprise, but I've put enough effort into it that I thought it might be worth recording for others.

The SMT-5800 is a smartphone running windows mobile 6 (or CE OS 5.2.1238). I was happy to connect it via Bluetooth to my QSTARZ BT-1200 Ultra GPS logger using serial port COM0 in the Bluetooth setup. I can use BeeLineGPS to interact with it.

Next I wanted to be able to download tracks from it on an extended hike. I found BT747_J2ME, but it seems that even though J2ME is listed in the specs for the SMT-5800, there is no virtual machine installed. I managed to "app unlock" the phone and install Esmertec Jbed. After that BT747_J2ME from getjar.com installs and runs.

One thing I'm not sure about is whether there's a better option for a Java VM on this phone.

Now BT747 starts up with the subject error message. The application log says:

[Info] No BT address set
[Info] Setup up console to file
[Info] Setup up console to file
[Info] Basedir set to:/MemoryCard
[Info] Discvoering Bluetooth devices.
[Error] Problem with Bluetooth device discovery. Operation returned null.

One thing I'm not sure about is whether there's a way to tell BT747 to try COM0. I've tried changing that to other COM ports in the phone's Bluetooth settings, but it doesn't seem to make a difference.

Good.

No problem about the mess of this thread. Let's say it is my fault too.
As you can see I installed some new modules to try to make the forum look better. All entries are now the same width.

You can exit the application if you get to the menu. I do not know what button you need to get that. As a backup solution I could add an exit elsewhere, but I'ld prefer that you can activate the menu.

Can you see the current position, the memory used, the configuration? If yes, then you are really set to go!

Of course, file access must still be ok, but that should not be an issue.

Using the interface on penless devices

Apparently to get the menu, you need to press the 'action' button for one second. Once in the menu, you can go to the exit function in the File menu.

More instructions are here: http://www.superwaba.com.br/en/mostraDicas.asp?n=25

Transfer Made!

I've successfully downloaded a tracklog! That's the crucial part for me.

I still can't access the menu. Holding the action button just toggles the current selection back and forth quickly. I assume you saw at the bottom of your link:

On Windows CE and Symbian, it is performed when pressing and releasing quicly the action button. This behaviour can be disabled by making Settings.actionOnRelease=false, but in this case, it will be impossible to open the menu on penless devices

A little more serious is that I'm having trouble entering text, so I haven't been able to change the storage path to \Storage Card\BT747, which is where I have room for the files.

Text entry.

Regarding the menu: according to me you should press the 'action' button for one second and then release it.
As I understand it, the text that you refer to says that for the other actions you need to press and release the action button quickly.

Normally there is a way to popup a keyboard when in a text entry field. "NORMAL : in this mode any character can be entered, and when pressing the abc/123 keys the waba.ui.Keyboard is popped up."

At lest you can download the data. If needed you can move the file to another location and use J2ME to convert the files ;-). Not very handy, but at least a solution.

I fixed the path selection

I fixed the path selection problem using '+'. Actually the path does get updated, but it does not show in the GUI.
I am rebuilding the application and will let you know when it is available.

Few people must be using this because the problem was introduced a long time ago.

Stable and dev versions updated

Versions BT747_1.68.28_full.zip and BT747_2.X.1448_full.zip contain the fix for the '+' menus in the Superwaba version and are available for download. That should allow you setting another directory with having to type the directory.
You can empty the path first before typing '+' or move one level up each time.

Let's call it good

The action button just doesn't behave as described on my phone. The quick press & release is fine, but if I hold it down I just get the same result as multiple quick presses. I'll work around it, especially if no one else is likely to experience this.

Well done! I thank you for the good work.

We surely got most

We surely got most bottlenecks out of the way -especially the serial link is the most difficult part.

I repeat myself, but maybe you missed it. In the emulator I have to press the left upper button on the phone to open the menu (not the left 'arrow', but the left button as used in J2ME applications and for 'Start' on the SmartPhone - The Emulator calls this key 'Soft Key 1').

I did try it

Ok - I did try tapping and holding the upper left 'Start' button also. I never got any response at all from that.

Can I use this blutooth with my iPhone 5? The information and the detail were just perfect. I think that your perspective is deep, its just well thought out and really fantastic to see someone who knows how to put these thoughts down so well. Great job on. WP8 Apps
