The default for new users on this site apparently was to notify upon any new forum topic or entry.

This was not the intent.  For future users, this default setting is now 'off'.

However, existing users are invited - if they wish to do so - to connect to their account and check out the subscriptions section.

For that, click on 'My account' in the left menu and then on 'Subscriptions' in the horizontal menu.  There, click on 'Content types' and uncheck the boxes that are checked.  Finally, click 'Save'.

I apologize for the inconvienience that I caused some users.
